Get involved as an honored hero for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
An honored hero is a survivor of leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma. Survivors can be of any age and at any stage in their diagnosis/treatment. Honored heroes remind fundraising program participants why they joined the program and inspire them to achieve more success. See below a description of the many fundraising programs for which you can inspire participation.
Team In Training®
The Society's Team In Training is the world's largest sports endurance training program. Honored heroes are matched with a team, which consists of a mentor and 10-15 runners, walkers, cyclists or triathletes. Teams train for a half marathon, marathon, 100-mile (century) bike ride or Olympic-distance triathlon in honor of their hero.

Heroes serve as the personal connection to our mission. They are invited to all team functions and receive a training card, button and bracelet. Our goal is that honored heroes have the opportunity to get to know team members and that team members form a relationship with you and your family.
Light The Night® Walk
The Light The Night Walk program is the Society's annual evening walk to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. Each fall, teams of friends, families and co-workers gather in cities and towns across America. They walk in twilight, holding illuminated balloons—white for survivors and red for supporters. More than a walk, the evening includes music, food and family activities. Honored heroes are featured in newsletters and other materials and can attend kickoff events and corporate luncheons to share their story.

School & YouthSM Programs
Schools participate in Pennies for Patients®campaigns by allowing their students to donate spare change during a three-week period. The top fundraising classroom of each school receives a pizza party and schools can also win other incentives for their efforts. Each participating school will receive the honored hero's biography, a photo and perhaps a chance to write a letter to participating students. Heroes also have the opportunity to attend rollout meetings and school assemblies in their area. Please spread the word and make sure your neighborhood schools are participating in this fun and easy program.
