Patient Services Programs
The Western Canada Chapter is committed to reaching out to patients with leukemia, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma in meaningful ways. Support and Education Programs have been developed to meet the needs of patients, families, caregivers, oncology professionals and other concerned individuals.
The Chapter's Patient Services programs include:
First Connection
Peer-to-peer support program for patients and family members in all stages of treatment and survival. Connections are made via telephone by trained volunteers who have been successfully treated for the same diagnosis. Patients and caregivers can learn coping skills and gain hope from the volunteer survivors who share their special perspective on the recovery process. Contact the Patient Services Manager if you would like to request a First Connection match or if you would like to become a trained volunteer to help others in need of support.
Family Support Groups
The Family Support Group program was established to give patients and their families a forum where information, education and feelings can be shared in a comfortable and caring environment. All groups are professionally led by oncology specialists and are free of charge. For more information about Family Support Groups, please contact the Patient Services Manager.
Seeking Facilitators: Are you a medical professional (e.g. nurse, social worker, child life specialist, physician) with oncology experience? Are you interested in leading a family support group? All Support Group Facilitators are consistently supported by the Patient Services Department and are valued as a member of the staff. Please contact Sharon Paulse, Patient Services Manager at sharon.paulse@lls.org or call (604) 733-2873 or toll free at (866) 547-5433 for more information.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada offers a variety of educational opportunities including a comprehensive website, an Information Resource Centre, a multitude of educational materials that can be sent out to patients and families, webcasts, teleconferences highlighting specific diseases and treatment information, and local education programs that take place throughout the year. Check the Western Canada Chapter Calendar for upcoming events or contact the Patient Services Manager to learn more about what educational materials are available.
