Memphis Man & Woman of the Year 2007

Congratulations to our 2007 Man & Woman of the Year!

Over a 10-week period this spring, nine men and women - all busy professionals in the Memphis area - vied for the titles of Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Memphis Man & Woman of the Year.  This high profile, fun, and friendly competition is based entirely on funds raised, with each dollar counting as one vote.  These dedicated individuals, from a variety of backgrounds and connections to the Society, came together for one purpose; to help cure leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma and to improve the quality of life for patients and their families.

Our winners were John Boren of B Four Plied, Inc. and Nanette Farris, with Campbell Clinic, who together raised nearly $50,000.  They are shown here with Runners Up, Ken Edmundson, Edmundson Northstar Institute, and Pat Cranston, FedEx Express.

Additional 2007 Candidates:

  • Mark Skelton, Hartsell Realty
  • Ken Woody, ActionCoach
  • Jay Young, KIX-106
  • Dr. Rajneesh Nath, UT Cancer Center
  • Monica Henao, MATCU

The winners were announced at the "Field of Dreams" Finale Gala on May 31st at the Holiday Inn at the University of Memphis.  It was a fantastic celebration of all our candidates, sponsors, donors, and volunteers, as the campaign total of $103,606 was announced, making this our most successful campaign ever!

Thank You!  -  Thank You!  -  Thank You!

Thanks too to our 2007 Boy and Girl of the Year - local children currently fighting blood cancer - who have been our motivation and inspiration throughout the campaign.

Zackery Tatum, our Boy of the Year, is just five years old, and is battling Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia.  He is an inspiration and a joy, as he takes his chemotherapy and seemingly endless treatments, tests, and proceedures with a smile and a hug for his doctors and nurses.  But what he really loves is Power Rangers, playing outside with his little brother, and going to the zoo.

Our Girl of the Year, Tamara Brown, is 16 years old, and is a junior at Melrose High School.  She was diagnosed with lymphoma in November of 2005, and receives weekly chemotherapy treatments.  Between treatments Tamara works hard at keeping up her grades so she can pursue her dream to become a famous fashion designer.  She's thrilled to be able to again play on her school's softball team.
