Prior to being stricken he served as president and chief executive officer of the Chambers of Commerce in Los Angeles and Sacramento. He was a successful corporate executive, was the nation's youngest mayor at the age of 21, and the country's youngest elected official at the age of 18.
When Cancer Calls...Say Yes to Life is Rusty's story about his life before cancer, his diagnosis, treatment, and new life. He discusses suggestions to help patients, caregivers and loved ones through their journeys and provides recommendations for the medical community to improve patient care. The book concludes with his Ethical Legacy, inspired by his children who told him he was too young to die and asked him to write principles he wanted them to learn that they could live by.
