THE HISTORY
The Man & Woman of the Year competition began in San Francisco in 1990, in remembrance of John Spencer, a valued employee and Society volunteer, who died of leukemia at the age of 39. The Greater Sacramento Area Chapter hosted its inaugural Man & Woman of the Year Campaign in 1997.
In 1998, our local chapter added the Celebrity Category and in 2005, the Teen of the Year category was added. Robert Dean, Executive Vice President and Managing Director of the Northwest Region for Grubb & Ellis, has chaired the event for the past eleven years. Since the beginning, the Niello Company has been the Presenting Sponsor of the Man, Woman, Celebrity & Teen of the Year event and continues to support this campaign into its twelfth year. We are extremely proud that this event has locally raised over $2.5 Million dollars benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
