LLS & Pediatric Involvement News

  • On January 2008, the Patient Services Department visited the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Specialty Center in Bethlehem, and hosted the first "Chemo Circus Day" for the children and their families.

Book bags, arts and crafts, face painting, a clown, "Barney' and therapy dogs were on hand to make the circus as much fun as possible and a distraction from the treatments they were enduring that day.

Chemo Circus Days continue each month both at the outpatient specialty center and at the inpatient pediatric unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown.

If you are 18 or older and would like to volunteer please contact MaryAnn Chupella at 610-266-8513, Ext. 14

If  you would like to donate arts and crafts projects for the children please drop them off at 961 Marcon Blvd, Suite 452, Allentown, PA 18109.

  • On December 18, 2007, The Patient Services Department of the Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter visited the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and hosted a "Holiday Art Day" for the children and their families being treated on the Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.

Hats, caps, blankets, and many art supplies were donated by The Society through generous donations.

Some children took part in  the Society's national "Paint My Future" project.  The Paint My Future project is artwork that symbolizes what cancer means to the child. The artwork will be used to educate members of Congress about the needs of our pediatric population & to emphasize the importance of cancer research during the Society's Annual March National Lobby Days in Washington, D.C.

If you 18 or older and interested in volunteering to do art projects with children and provide respite care for parents at CHOP please contact Nancy Chhum at 610-238-0360 ext 234
