Meet the 2009 Man & Woman of the Year Candidates!

CLICK ON A CANDIDATE'S NAME TO MAKE A DONATION TO THEIR CAMPAIGN

Lisa Bowling has chosen to participate as a 2009 Woman of the Year candidate in honor of all of those who have been affected by blood cancers. She is excited for the opportunity to raise money that will go towards finding a cure for cancer! Lisa is from Lenexa, Kansas. She currently works as a Senior Sales & Marketing Associate for Morningstar. She has lived in Denver for a year and enjoys snowboarding, running, traveling and bowling.

Bill Buckley is a survivor of Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. He is an attorney working for the Chesler Law Firm in Denver. Previously, Bill served for 25 years as the Chief Deputy District Attorney for Denver. He is an active member of the Board of Trustees for the Rocky Mountain Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, of which he does significant work. He enjoys singing and playing guitar and lives with his wife, Shirlee in Aurora, CO. They have three children, John, Michael and Joanie.

Brenda Crews-Martinez was inspired to run as a candidate for the Woman of the Year by a dear friend and current Rocky Mountain Chapter Board member, Ralph Guglielmi. Ralph was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia four years ago and is now a blood cancer survivor. Though her candidacy, Brenda desires to educate her community about blood cancers and the vast opportunities there are to help those affected by this disease. Brenda has worked in property management for the past ten years and currently works for Fairfield Residential. She was recently married in December of 2008 to Steve Martinez. They both reside, happily, in Littleton, CO.

Vivian Langton's son, Daniel was diagnosed at the age of three with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Daniel is now fourteen years old and a long time survivor of leukemia. Although Daniel's battle with cancer was 11 years ago, his strength and perseverance has inspired Vivian to do amazing things over the past decade to give back to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Vivian has participated in three Team In Training events and has raised over $14,000! Now, as a candidate for the Man & Woman of the Year campaign, Vivian plans to use her experience in fundraising to vie for the title of Woman of the Year. She recently graduated with a B.S. in Human Services and is currently doing grant writing for local non-profits. She resides in Broomfield, Colorado with her husband, Tim and inspiration, Daniel.

Lisa Straffon is an employee of Vistar, ROMA, PFG. She has done significant work for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society through her position at Vistar as they are a sponsor for the Light The Night campaign. She has chosen to participate as a Woman of the Year in honor of the individuals she knows who have been affected by a blood cancer. She is on the board for the Colorado Children's Campaign - Circle of Friends and is a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. Lisa enjoys reading, cooking, skiing and gardening. She lives with her husband Kris in Denver, CO.

Jim Tuccio is thrilled for the opportunity to give back to his community through this great campaign. He is using this opportunity to increase awareness about blood cancers, raise funds for research and honor his mother who is a cancer survivor. Jim works as a Financial Representative for Northwestern Mutual. He is very active in the community as a member of the Sons of Italy and a volunteer with Junior Achievement. Jim lives with his wife, Heather and six year old daughter, Isabella in Highlands Ranch, CO.

Chef Daniel Young (Chef D) is a nationally recognized chef and fitness consultant. He was recently nominated to be President Barack Obama's personal chef. Chef D is currently working as a personal chef for Denver Nugget, Carmelo Anthony. He was inspired to run as a candidate because of the number of children affected by blood cancers. Chef D is grateful for the opportunity to raise money to help these kids, as children hold a special place in his heart. Recently, he has done extensive work with the Diabetes Foundation in teaching kids and their families healthy eating habits. Chef D, his wife Joanna and their two children reside in Denver, CO.

Tables and reservations may be purchased through candidates to benefit their fundraising campaign to become Man or Woman of the Year.
