Pittsburgh Man & Woman of the Year

Man & Woman of the Year Candidate Recruitment is Underway for 2010!

The Man & Woman of the Year campaign is a ten week competition to raise funds to cure blood cancers.  Campaign participants are individuals in the community who utilize their leadership abilities and resources to conduct their own fundraising campaigns for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Who Can Run?
Candidates are philanthropic, ambitious, socially active, resourceful, and passionate about making a difference in the lives of those touched by blood cancers.

The Reason
Although someone new is diagnosed with a blood cancer every five minutes, there is great hope for the future.  The Society is the world's largest national voluntary health organization dedicated to curing leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma, and to improving the quality of life of patients and families.

The Other Reason
FUN!  Everyone involved with Man & Woman of the year is surrounded by diverse people, fantastic parties, a dedicated staff, a supportive committee, an exciting finale event and the opportunity to gain new friends and contacts.

How Do I Raise Funds?
LLS staff provides tremendous support to candidates with ideas and tools to execute a successful fundraising campaign.  We encourage candidates to have fun, too!  Past candidates have planned letter writing campaigns, art auctions, bake sales, wine tasting events, golf outings, yard sales... and anything else they can think of to raise money for the cure!  Every dollar collected couns as "one vote."

How Do I Spread the Word about The Society Mission?
Candidates raise funds in honor of the Boy & Girl of the Year, local blood cancer patient survivors.  Candidates receive their stories and bios to help share their experiences with potential donors.

How Do I Sign Up?
If you are interested in nominating a friend, colleague, neigbor, or even yourself, OR if you would like to volunteer to participate on the nominating and planning committee for Man & Woman of the Year, please contact Kira Foley, at 412-395-2883 or at kira.foley@lls.org or Richele Ward, at 412-395-2868 or richele.ward@lls.org

Important Dates
The campaign will officially kick-off in March of 2010 and run for 10 weeks through May, 2010, and will be celebrated at two major events.  We will also have a mid-point party to share successes along the way!
