Join us for Pennsylvania Mission Day as we advocate to get the Cancer Clinical Trials Act passed through the Pennsylvania House and Senate. These bills require private insurance companies operating in the state of Pennsylvania to cover the cost of routine care for patients enrolled in cancer clinical trials. For patients fighting leukemia, lymphoma and other blood cancers, clinical trials are especially critical as many of the most dramatic strides in cancer treatment have been made with blood cancer patients in a clinical trial setting, chiefly among children.
A diagnosis of leukemia for a child 20 years ago, was commonly considered a death sentence. Today, as a result of cutting-edge clinical trials available to children, the survival rate is over 80%. However, to achieve this same success with adults, barriers that prevent access to affordable, necessary health care such as nursing services, in-patient care, and prescription drugs must be removed and these bills are a step in the right direction.
