The Leukemia & Lymphoma SocietyŽ, headquartered in White Plains, NY, with chapters in the United States and Canada, is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research and providing education and patient services. The LLS mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since its founding in 1949, LLS has invested more than $600 million in research specifically targeting leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Last year alone, LLS made 5.1 million contacts with patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals.



Responsibilities

The Website Copywriter/Editor (Consultant) will be responsible for reviewing/completing an audit of current web content on www.LLS.org, then working with the information architect to fit the pages into a new content structure, consolidating and editing pages, deletion of unnecessary pages and creation of new content as needed. S/he will work closely with various departments, which will review their respective content, and must make sure that deadlines are followed. Final content must be engaging, easily understood by each of our target audiences, as well as follow search engine optimization (SEO) best practices to help content rank well in search engines.



Qualifications

To qualify, you must have at least an undergraduate degree in English (with a focus on writing), communications, journalism or a related field OR experience in writing for the web for at least 5 years for those with degrees in different fields. In addition, you must have experience writing health or medical content for the web. An understanding of blood cancers (leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma) is a plus. A bachelor's degree is required. This is a temporary full time, three to four month consulting position, with the possibility of the role continuing to ensure proper content maintenance. Must be familiar with working in a content management system, MediaSurface Morello is a plus. Telecommuting is available.
