Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL)

Introduction

Advances in the treatment of acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) have resulted in improved remission rates. The number of patients who have gone into remission or have been cured is increasing each year.

About 5,200 new cases of ALL are expected to be diagnosed in the United States in 2007 (source: Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results [SEER] Program, 2000-2004, National Cancer Institute, 2007). It is the most common type of leukemia in children under the age of 15 years. About 54 percent of new cases of this disease are expected to be diagnosed in children in 2007. However, ALL can occur at any age.
