Introduction

More than 900,000 people in the United States are living with or are in remission from blood cancer (leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, myelodysplastic syndromes and myeloproliferative diseases). The growing number of people who are surviving cancer, and living good quality lives, is largely due to the current drug therapies developed during the last 50 years. Drug therapies can produce long-term remission, or outright cure, for many children and some adults, depending on the type of cancer and other patient-related factors.
