WHAT IS MAN & WOMAN OF THE YEAR?

Man & Woman of the Year is a 10 week friendly fundraising competition benefiting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society®, in which candidates compete for the titles in honor of local survivor children, the Boy & Girl of the Year.

Local business and community leaders are nominated, and those who accept, become competing candidates agreeing to raise at least $5,000.00. Judged solely on a philanthropic basis, the candidate raising the most funds wins. After the competition ends, those winning the titles of Nashville's Man & Woman of the Year are recognized in various business and society newspaper ads, in a national ad in USA Today, and on billboards throughout town. Additionally, they receive a host of impressive prizes from local retailers. All candidates are featured in at least one ad. Runners-up and those raising $15,000 or more will also receive publicity and prizes.

BOY & GIRL OF THE YEAR

Those campaigning for Man & Woman of the Year will be raising funds in honor of our Boy & Girl of the Year 2009. The hard work of candidates and sponsor support will help these children and thousands of others in the fight against leukemia and other blood cancers.

WHY WE WANT YOU

·         An estimated 894,543 Americans are living with leukemia, lymphoma or myeloma.

·         Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20.

·         Every four minutes, someone is diagnosed with one of the blood cancers.

·         Every ten minutes someone dies of leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease, or myeloma.

·         Over 3,000 Tennessee blood cancer patients are registered to receive assistance from the Tennessee Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in 2008.

·         The five-year survival rate for blood cancers is greatly improving, but there is still much work to be done.
