2009 Luncheon Details
Last year was a very special year for the Saint Valentine's Day Luncheon & Fashion Show as we celebrated our 25th Anniversary! The Luncheon is one of the leading fundraising events for the North Texas Chapter and one of the top fundraising galas for the Society nationwide. The 2009 Luncheon, co-chaired by Janie Condon and DeeDee Lee had over 800 social and civic leaders from Dallas, Fort Worth and the entire North Texas region attended and more than $400,000 was raised, adding to nearly $6.5 million generated over the past two decades.
This "must-attend" event is popular not only in the social community but also with members of the area's fashion industry, as it is the first runway show of the new season on the calendar each year. Stanley Korshak and our beloved friend Crawford Brock once again presented fabulous fashions for spring in a runway show produced by the talented Jan Strimple.
The Saint Valentine's Day Luncheon & Fashion Show is always an upbeat, glittering affair enjoyed by everyone in attendance, but we try never to lose sight of our very serious mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. Since its founding in 1949, the Society has invested $600 million in research specifically targeting leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Last year alone, the Society made 6.3 million contacts with patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals.
Heart of Gold Award
The Heart of Gold Award honors an adult individual or couple with a Heart of Gold, who has been affected by a blood cancer or has helped to raise awareness to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma. We were honored to present Brian Roughton with this award.
Spirit of Tom Landry Character Award
The Spirit of Tom Landry Character Award recognizes a youth with courage, integrity, dignity and dauntless spirit who has battled blood cancer through personal experience or who has volunteered extensively on behalf of others who suffer from blood cancer. We are honored to have Mrs. Tom Landry, a beloved figure in Dallas, make this award presentation. The cause is close to her heart, as she lost her husband to leukemia. Mrs. Landry was escorted by former Dallas Cowboy Preston Pearson. The Spirit of Tom Landry award winner was Hailey Hodgkiss.
Featured Designer - Brian Reyes
Brian Reyes is an up and coming designer who has been turning heads in the fashion industry since the 2007 Golden Globes when his design launched America Ferrera onto the top of everyone's best dressed list. Brian is best known for his signature ladylike designs which are a window to his past; he worked for some of the most legendary in the business including Oscar de la Renta, Michael Kors, and Ralph Lauren.
