Internships
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society offers unpaid internships several times a year to qualified candidates. Interns must commit to 3-6 months working with the Society, depending on the position. For details on upcoming internships and the application process, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator. Interns must be at least 18 years of age or older.

Light the Night Graphic Design Intern
Position: Graphic Design Intern
Reports to: Light the Night Staff
Dates of Position: Between the months of June 2009 through September 30, 2009. (start and end dates are flexible)
Time Commitment: 10-20 hours per week. Flexible hours. Some remote work possible.
Location: LLS office
Stipend: Unpaid
Closing Date: Until filled. Interviews begin January 28, 2009.
Background: Light the Night is The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's national evening fundraising walk to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. Participants carry illuminated balloons- red balloons representing supporters, white representing survivors, and gold representing loved ones who have passed away. Funds raised support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission of curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improving the quality of life of patients and their families.
Position Summary: LLS is seeking an intern to design and produce marketing and promotional materials to enhance visibility of the Light The Night walk and promote the mission of the organization as a whole.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Create layouts for various print materials to include: brochures, flyers, posters, newsletters, and direct mail.
Create layouts for online marketing materials to include: e-newsletters, web-based marketing emails, and web postings.
Re-design and maintain website.

Team in Training Public Relations Intern
Position: Public Relations/Sports Marketing Internship
Reports to: Bonni Brooks, Team in Training Director
Dates of Position: Start and end date flexible and based on current Team in Training season
Time Commitment: 15-20 hours per week, some Saturdays required
Location: LLS Office, Seattle WA
Stipend: Unpaid

Background: Over the past 20 years, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Team In Trainingฎ (TNT) has grown to become an unparalleled sports training program. More than 380,000 participants, from first timers to seasoned athletes, have trained with the Team and achieved their best at marathons, half marathons, triathlons, 100-mile century bike rides and hiking adventures. Team in training is the world's largest endurance sports training program and has successfully raised over $750 million in support of LLS/ mission: to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
Position Summary: Interns working with Team in Training will help support public relations efforts in recruiting new participants to the program. The intern will work independently and with staff on the following areas: public relations, event promotion, race flyering, sponsorship and more.
Duties and Responsibilities
Promote teams and events through community outreach and grassroots marketing strategies
Determine venues and events most suited to reach target demographic
Plan and execute alumni recruitment events, house parties and other preview events to promote seasonal teams and races
Using a "street team" approach, generate new prospects by extending our brand recognition in the market
Train volunteers to work at expos, races, fairs and other community events to promote Team In Training
Create and maintain a database of community calendar listings and media outlets to receive periodic press releases
Post updates to online calendars and distribute press releases as needed
Work with team managers to create events within their training season that promote new interest in Team In Training events (e.g. open practices, bring a friend days, spirit days, etc.)
Work with the Campaign Director on new approaches to grassroots marketing specific to each sport, market and event.

Duties and Responsibilities
Work with Team In Training staff and coaches to provide team support in marathon, half marathon, triathlon or cycle events.
Produce weekly team newsletter for team.
Attend all informational meetings, team practice sessions and clinics.
Assist coaches in communicating information and distributing materials from clinics including educational materials on injury prevention, strength and stretching techniques, shoes and gear, form, nutrition and hydration, exercise and race psychology, etc.
Track and analyze recruitment and retention results for each team.
Relate results back to recruitment, training and team management strategies and suggest changes/improvements.
Thoroughly research each event for which the team is training in order to provide athletes with relevant details about the course, aid and emergency support, training strategies specific to the event, rules and regulations, etc.
