Remembering the Reason
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission is personified by its patients, who represent the daily and lifelong challenges that a diagnosis of leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma bring to them and their families. Individuals running for Man & Woman of the Year raise funds in honor of the Boy & Girl of the Year. We are pleased to have Brenden and McKinley as our 2009 patient heroes!
Brenden Conroy
Age 5
My name is Brenden, and I was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) in October of 2006. I take pills every day, get IV chemo once a month and have a spinal tap every three months, and will finish my treatment in 2010. I am doing great and have a great outlook. I like to play outside, ride my four-wheeler and play on my swing set. I like Sponge Bob and Spiderman, and my favorite places to eat are McDonald's and Applebee's. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has helped my family with financial aid for some of my medications.
McKinley Chung
Age 5
My name is McKinley, and I was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) in July of 2008. I just completed my second phase of treatment, which made me lose my hair, but I am doing well. I will continue with maintenance therapy for the next three years. I like to eat pizza and macaroni and cheese, play with my brother Carter and go to the Minnesota Zoo. Lion King, the Smurfs and Dora and Diego are my favorite cartoon characters. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has provided my family with information and resources. "Thanks for helping!"
