Board President

Brian Kinion
is vice president and controller of SuccessFactors, Inc., a software company. Previously, he worked for CoTherix, Inc. for three years as vice president of finance/controller. Mr. Kinion received a MBA from St. Mary's College, CA. He has been involved with Team In Training as a participant, mentor and team captain. In 2008, Mr. Kinion won the title of LLS Man of the Year. Mr. Kinion currently serves as the Board President.

Board of Trustees

Michelle Arnau is a marketing category director at Method Home, a people friendly, earth friendly, cleaning products company based in San Francisco.  Ms. Arnau came to Method Home after spending 1.5 years leading the marketing function for Bevology, an early-stage beverage company.  Prior to Bevology, she spent a successful 2.5 years at Nestlé's PowerBar division where she managed the Performance brands including the national Team In Training relationship.  Michelle holds a BS from the University of California, Riverside and a MBA from Northwestern University (Kellogg GSM).  Ms. Arnau is a two-time Team In Training triathlete and currently serves on the Board Development and Patient Services Committees.  She is a seven-year survivor of myelodysplasia, receiving a stem cell transplant in 2001 at the City of Hope in Los Angeles.

Dr. Gary Bean is an associate at the Pediatric Care Group in Oakland.  Both Dr. Bean and his wife have participated in Team In Training marathon and triathlon events.

Christopher (Chris) J. Blass is vice president and national director, Labor & Trust (L&T) for Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc.  He is responsible for working closely with the regional Kaiser Permanente Health Plans to develop and execute corporate strategy and to build relationships with regional and national leaders and consultants in support of the L&T business strategy.  He is also responsible for driving corporate strategy to align the organization in providing quality and affordable health care to union members.  Mr. Blass joined Kaiser Permanente in 2004 with more than 15 years of service working with labor organizations in the health care industry.  Most recently, he served as executive director of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield National Labor Office in Washington, D.C.  Mr. Blass was also director of Labor sales at Merck-Medco Managed Care.  He received his BA degree in political science from Ursinus College and his MBA in health care administration and marketing from LaSalle University.  Mr. Blass is currently enrolled in a labor studies program at the National Labor College at the AFL-CIO George Meany Center and he has been a member of the Intl. Union of Bricklayers and Allied Trades for more than 15 years.

Meade Boutwell is the senior vice president of brokerage services for CB Richard Ellis. With more than 23 years of experience as a commercial real estate broker,  Mr. Boutwell specializes in office leasing and investment sales, as well as, tenant and property representation.  Mr. Boutwell consistently ranks as one of the top leasing agents in San Francisco.  In total, he has sold, leased or subleased over 5.5 million square feet in commercial space in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Mr. Boutwell is also living proof that blood cancer research pays off -- he recently celebrated his 12th anniversary as a survivor of Hodgkin's lymphoma.  Born in Portland, Oregon and a graduate of Oregon Sate University, Mr. Boutwell is an active member of US Green Building Council, ULI, NAIOP and CoreNet Global.  He is also an avid mountain biker, kid's coach, fledgling Zinfandel grower and an Eagle Scout.  He resides in San Anselmo, California with his wife and three children. 

C. Geoffrey Davis, Ph.D. is the CEO of Angelica Therapeutics, Inc., a privately held company dedicated to discovering a cure for mantle cell lymphoma.  He founded and served as the Chief Scientific Officer of Abgenix, Inc. in Fremont, California.  At Abgenix, he led the development of the XenoMouse® technology, was involved in the research and development of Vectabix®, a fully human monoclonal antibody for the treatment of colorectal cancer, and guided the discovery of 11 other antibodies currently in clinical trials.  Prior to founding Abgenix, Dr. Davis was a faculty member at UCSF, an investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the director of immunology at both Repligen Corp. and Cell Genesys, Inc.  Dr. Davis received his PhD in immunology from the University of California, San Francisco and completed his postdoctoral work at Southwestern University.  He has authored 37 publications and is an inventor on seven issued patents.  

Kathleen Golden is vice president of public relations for Wells Fargo Wealth Management Group.  In this role, she is responsible for the group's media relations strategy and issues management, serves as media spokesperson for the group in national publications and is the liaison between the Wealth Management Group and Wells Fargo's regional communications team.  Prior to joining Wells Fargo in 2006, Ms. Golden was the public relations manager for Advent Software, Inc., a San Francisco-based investment management technology software provider.  She previously served as an account executive for Trimedia Public Relations (now Intermarket Communications) in New York City and worked as a journalist and editor in finance and technology at Miller Freeman (now CMP Media) in New York.  Ms. Golden graduated from LeMoyne College in Syracuse, New York with a BA in English.  She has completed several events with Team In Training and speaks regularly on behalf of  LLS.

Ms. Golden currently servves as the Board Vice President.

Judith Hall is the associate general counsel of Babcock & Brown, a global investment bank based in Sydney, Australia.  She received her BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley, her JD from Hastings Law School and her LLM from Boalt Hall.  Ms. Hall is a member of the Bay Area General Counsel Group, the Lawyer's Committee for Civil Rights and the Legal Community Against Violence.  Ms. Hall has participated in 11 seasons of Team In Training as an athlete, mentor and captain.  She has completed three Ironman triathlons and is currently training for Ironman Louisville.  Ms. Hall is an active fundraiser, speaker and recruiter for Team In Training.

Nancee Hirano is an oncology nurse practitioner currently employed at Amgen USA Inc. as an Oncology Clinical Specialist.  She received her BA in psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles, her RN/ADN from West Los Angeles College and her MS and her post-MS adult nurse practitioner certificate from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Ms. Hirano is an advanced oncology certified nurse who has lectured for many years on cancer and cancer patient care.  In addition to volunteering as a consultant for the Bay Area Tumor Institute, she is an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF, School of Nursing.  She also co-authored The Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy Survival Guide.  Her association with LLS began and continues with her co-facilitation of the East Bay Family Support Group.  She has presented at various Team In Training events and chapter staff education programs. Ms. Hirano lives in Oakland with her husband, Terence Shinsato, and their dog, Max. 

Lesley Mansford is an leader within the interactive entertainment industry with more than 20 years of experience and currently consults with companies like Microsoft and Atari.  She worked for Electronic Arts (EA) for more than six years as the vice president of online publishing, the vice president of mobile publishing and the vice president of digital distribution.  Ms. Mansford was a founder of the casual gaming leader Pogo.com where she was the vice president of publishing and operations.  Pogo.com was acquired by EA in 2001.  Prior to founding Pogo.com, she was the vice president of marketing at EA for nine years.  Ms. Mansford graduated from Bristol University, England with a BA in History.  Her involvement with LLS began in 2002 when she was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia after a routine physical.  She immediately joined Team In Training and successfully completed six events including two IronMan triathlons.  In 2003, she participated in and won the title of LLS Woman of the Year.  Her fundraising efforts over the last four years have raised $120,000 for LLS. She continues to be asymptomatic and has required no treatment to-date.

Ms. Mansford currently serves as the chapter Fund Development Committee Chair.

Michael V. McCullar, Ph.D., MBA is the vice president of Drug Discovery Operations at SuperGen, Inc. in Dublin, CA.  He has held this position since April 2006.  His tenure with SuperGen dates back to January 2001, at which time he was involved with strategic planning, development and project management.  Previously, Dr. McCullar was the associate director of manufacturing at Titan Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in South San Francisco.  Dr. McCullar received his MBA from W.P Carey School of Business at Arizona State University and his doctorate in toxicology from the University of California, Riverside.  He is a Beta Gamma Sigma member and listed on the Marquis Who's Who in Science and Engineering.  Dr. McCullar has served as a strategic planning consultant to LLS to develop policies to sustain a double-digit growth rate for the San Francisco Chapter and sustain the chapter's leadership position within the national organization.  

Sean Monaghan is an attorney fro Laughlin, Falbo, Levy & Moresi, LLP in San Francisco. He specializes in the defence of Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation and Defense Base Act cases, State Workers' Compensation Act cases, 132(a) claims and subrogation matters on behlaf of employers and insurance carriers. Previously, Mr. Monaghan was a litigation associate and coordinating council at Dillon, Hall & Lungershausen, LLS/ Lungershausen & Smith, LLP in Boeblingen, Germany. He received his JD from the San Francisco Law School and his BA in history from the California State University, Los Angeles. Mr. Monaghan also attended the University of Southern California cancer registry training program, a program approved by the American College of Surgeons. He was a candidate for the 2007 Man & Woman of the Year campaign and sponsored the 2008 Woman of the Year, Ms. Betsie Hidalgo. Mr. Monaghan enjoys sports and the outdoors and his interests include wine, history, community development, art and painting.

Mr. Monaghan is currently the Chair of the chapter's Man & Woman of the Year Executive Committee.

Bill Nolan is the director of sales and marketing for Passport Capital, LLC.  Previously, Mr. Nolan directed the client services, sales and marketing activities at Crosslink Capital.  Mr. Nolan has been working with technology companies, individual and institutional investors for the past decade including four years with Robertson Stephens in the firm's private client services group, where he provided investment and financial advisory services to technology executives.  Prior to Robertson Stephens, he helped build the private client services department at Legg Mason, Inc.  Previously, Mr. Nolan was a management consultant with Arthur Andersen & Co. and Booz, Allen and  Hamilton.  Mr. Nolan received his BS in mechanical engineering from the University of Notre Dame and his MBA with honors from the University of Michigan.

Michael  Pellegrini, the vice president for Marsh Risk & Insurance Services, is a client  advisor  in the Marine & Energy department of Marsh's San Francisco office, where he markets and services cargo and stock throughout insurance programs. In addition, Mr. Pellegrini serves as the National Life Sciences Industry Practice Cargo Leader, the West Coast Retail Industry Practice Cargo Representative and as a member of the Bay Area Community Impact Committee. Mr. Pellegrini advises clients from a variety of industries including the technology, biotechnology, medical device, pharmaceutical, retail, agricultural and transportation industries. He holds a BS in commerce with an emphasis in finance from Santa Clara University and a MBA with an emphasis in management from the University of San Francisco.  Mr. Pellegrini was one of 20 Marsh colleagues world-wide awarded the 2007 Global Chairman's Award in recognition of his excellent customer service,  leadership and  innovations in the insurance marketplace.


Lee Schneider is a 30-year sales veteran in the Institutional financial services market. His current position with Vision Capital Advisors relates to alternative investments for endowments, foundations and nonprofit organizations. Mr. Schneider has been involved with LLS directly and indirectly since the fall of 1999 and has participated in  numerous Team In Training marathons and triathlons as both a participant and a mentor/captain.  In addition, he and his wife are proud major donors to many LLS events and SCOR grants. Mr. and Mrs. Schneider also serve on the advisory board for the Loveall Foundation for Children. 

Mr. Schneider currently serves as the President of the National Board of Representatives and as the chapter Board Development Committee Chair.

Christie White is the project principal at CRI, Inc.  Previously, Ms. White was an account executive for Pivot Interiors of San Mateo, CA and the northwest region director, at HQ Global Workplaces. She received her degree in business adminstration from Georgia State University.  In February 2007, Ms. White was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and underwent radiation and chemotherapy.  She has been cancer free as of January 2008 and trained for the Vancouver Marathon with Team In Training.

Ms. White currently serves as the Board Secretary/Treasurer. 

Carol W. Wu is an attorney and a U.S. Department of Justice appointed bankruptcy trustee for the San Jose division. Prior to serving as a trustee, Ms. Wu practiced investment management and corporate law at an international law firm. During the "dot.com" boom, Ms. Wu taught "E-Commerce Public Policy & the Law" at San Jose State University.  She is a member of the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees and the Asian American Bar Association.  Ms. Wu joined Team In Training to honor a friend undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma. She has participated in multiple Team In Training seasons as a participant, mentor and captain.

Al Zemsky recently completed a career as senior external advisor for the southwest regional office of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He serves as the secretary on the Board of the UCSF Medical Center Auxiliary. As a chronic lymphocytic leukemia patient who has benefitted from LLS support and servives, Mr. Zemsky is interested in reciprocating in kind. He volunteers weekly in the San Francisco office for Patient Services and as a First Connection peer participant.

Mr. Zemsky currently serves as the chapter Patient Services Committee Chair.

Kurt Zimmerman has been the principal/ vice president of project management at R.N. Field Construction in San Francisco since July 1998.  Previously, Mr. Zimmerman was the president of Elmhurst Development Corporation, Inc. in Alamo, president, CEO and chairman of ECI Environmental, Inc. in San Leandro and president and CEO of Environmental Control Industries, Inc. in Oakland.  Mr. Zimmerman received a BA in history and international relations from the University of San Diego.  In 2004, he was diagnosed with stage IV B small lymphocytic lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.  He underwent the proscribed protocol of Fluderabine and Rituxan in April 2006 followed by two additional rounds of chemotherapy. Mr. Zimmerman has been in remission for two years and his passions include golf, hiking, scuba, diving and spending time with his wife, son and daughter.  Mr. Zimmerman has been an honoree for Team In Training.
