What Society Ties Does...
Fundraising Events
Society Ties committee members plan fundraising events throughout the year to financially support the mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). The most well-known and large-scale of these events is the annual Black Tie & Black Jack Casino Night, which brings in more than 700 guests and raises $150,000 for LLS each year.
Society Ties also plans other fundraisers during the course of the year such as Fighting with Fashion, a fashion show and bone marrow drive held for the first time in 2009 that raised more than $9,000. More casual bar events are also planned periodically by Society Ties' social chairs to raise additional funds and give Society Ties members a chance to get to know one another and have a little fun!

Volunteering
In addition to planning fundraising events, Society Ties members are encouraged to get involved with other LLS campaigns such as Team In Training®, Pennies for Patients® and the Light The Night® Walk in particular. Society Ties' Light the Night team of 77 walkers raised more than $30,000 for the Manhattan Light The Night Walk in 2009.
Society Ties' Volunteer Chair also plans other volunteer events such as family nights at the Ronald McDonald House, bone marrow drives and an annual toy drive and game night for local pediatric cancer patients. These events provide Society Ties members with a means to give back to the blood cancer community in a hands-on way.

Advocacy
Members of Society Ties are also invited to aid LLS in its advocacy initiatives by signing petitions at meetings and events, joining the online advocacy network and participating in the NYC Chapter's annual trip to meet with New York legislators in Albany. In these ways, Society Ties members can further positively impact the blood cancer research community and the lives of blood cancer patients and families.

Who We're Looking For...
