First Connection Program
The peer-to-peer program brings patients and their families the opportunity to share experiences with someone who has "been through it" and to obtain valuable information on Society and community resources.  Patients and caregivers learn the coping skills they need, while the survivor volunteers make a meaningful, caring contribution by sharing their special perspectives on the recovery process.

Family Support Groups
The Family Support Group program is based on the idea that open communication is critical for coping with all the feelings that arise during illness.  Professionally led groups help patients and family members discuss their anxieties with each other and with others who share the same experience.  This sharing of ideas and emotions strengthen the family bond and enhances everyone's ability to cope with the disease.

The North Texas Chapter offers free support groups led by healthcare and oncology professionals.  All patients, family members and friends affected by leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma are invited to attend.  All groups meet in the evening.

Patient Education Programs
The Society seeks to be a beacon of help and guidance to all those touched by blood-related cancers.  Our objectives in providing these programs are to offer education and information that will deepen the public's understanding of treatment options and strengthen decision making and coping skills.  Our educational programs, including Improving the Chemotherapy Experience, Cancer Clinical Trials, Meet the Expert on Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma and Meet the Doctor are free and offered through our chapter.

Patient Financial Aid Program

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Patient Financial Aid Program offers up to $150.00 per year to help patients offset expenses. Receipts for expenses are no longer required. To apply, the patient must be a U.S. resident and be in active treatment or ongoing medical follow-up for leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma or myelodysplastic syndromes or another blood cancer. The patients' physician must complete and sign the bottom portion of the application form. The patient must return the completed application to their local chapter.

The patient Financial Aid program begins each July 1 and ends each June 30.  Patients must reapply every year (after June 30th).  As always, reimbursement is based on patient financial aid fund availability.

North Texas Patient Financial Aid Application - July 1, 2009 - June 30, 2010 - English Application

Honored Hero Program
Patients have a unique opportunity to help the Society motivate event participants through the Honored Hero program.  All heroes receive exclusive invitations to fun events, including the Paint My Future advocacy initiative.  Honored Heroes can also help by sharing their personal struggle with blood cancer in Society press releases and news features released to the media.  Some North Texas patients have even been chosen to appear on Society brochures, posters and ads placed in magazines, newspapers, billboards, buses, television and radio.  To sign up, download the Honored Hero application or call 972-239-0959, toll-free 800-800-6702 for more information.
