Connecticut Chapter Local Services

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is committed to reaching out to those with leukemia, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma in meaningful ways. Programs have been developed to meet the needs of patients, families and oncology professionals.

To find out more about these programs, please contact Patient Services Managers Jennifer McGarry at (888) 282-9465 or Phyllis Osterman at (203) 665-1417.

Public Education
The chapter supplies the community with comprehensive materials on leukemia, Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma. We have more than 30 free booklets, brochures and videos. The chapter also sponsors a series of educational programs on diseases, treatment options, clinical trials and other cancer survivorship issues. Specialized treatment binders are available to patients for use in organizing treatment and resource information. For more information on upcoming free seminars, please contact the Connecticut Chapter.

Patient Financial Aid Program
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society provides a limited amount of financial
assistance to help patients with significant financial need who are under a
doctor's care for a confirmed blood cancer diagnosis. Reimbursement are processed through your local chapter and payments are issued directly to you.

Patient financial aid is limited to residents of the United States or its territories and US military personnel stationed abroad. This program is supported entirely by public contributions.

If you you are in financial need you may

  • Contact your local chapter to request a Patient Financial Aid application

or

  • Print, complete and return the online application form in English or in Spanish  to your local chapter.

*Patient Financial Aid funds are subject to availability.

Co-Pay Assistance Program
The Co-Pay Assistance Program helps patients pay insurance premiums and meet co-pay obligations—and provides information about other sources of help.

Family Support Groups
The Connecticut Chapter sponsors several support groups for parents of children with cancer; adults with leukemia, Hodgkin or non-Hodgkin lymphoma or myeloma; children with cancer, and their siblings; and caregivers of cancer patients. All groups are free and facilitated by healthcare professionals. Click here for a listing of local support groups.

The Trish Greene Back to School Program for Children with Cancer
The Society's back to school program was developed to foster communication among healthcare professionals, parents, young patients and school personnel in preparation for the return to school and other activities. Informative materials, videos, and a wealth of literature are available through the chapter. This program is designed to facilitate a smooth transition for children with cancer from the treatment setting back into the classroom.  The chapter has collaborated with Yale New Haven Hospital and the Connecticut Children's Medical Center to offer seminars for educators who have a student diagnosed with cancer in their school system.

First Connection
This program links newly diagnosed patients with carefully trained volunteers who are now in remission. This program gives patients and their families the opportunity to share experiences with someone who has "been through it" and to obtain valuable information on Society and community resources. The volunteer is available for one to three contacts (phone or in person) and can share experiences, resource information and offer hope and inspiration.

For more information about our programs, please contact Jennifer McGarry at (888) 282-9465 or Phyllis Osterman at (203) 665-1417.
