Patient Education Programs
The New York City Chapter offers educational programs of interest to patients, their family members, and caregivers throughout the year. Many programs are free, and light refreshments are typically served. The course content is appropriate for patients and survivors of any diagnosis. To view a list of events click here. Anyone is welcome to attend, but you must register in advance by calling (212) 448-9206, ext. 254 or by sending your information using the contact form provided below.

Patient Financial Aid Program
Qualified patients may receive supplementary financial assistance up to $500 per year for treatment-related costs not covered by other sources. The application is available in English or Spanish. Applicants must live in the five boroughs and be diagnosed with a blood-related cancer. For more information, please call the chapter at (212) 448-9206, ext. 254 or by sending your information using the contact form provided below.

Family Support Groups
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society sponsors groups throughout the country that give participants the opportunity to support each other and to respond to the emotional issues created by a life-threatening illness. A healthcare professional and a social work professional with oncology experience facilitate each group. In the New York City Chapter, there are several Family Support Groups running concurrently; people touched by any of the blood-related cancers may attend more than one. The groups are open to patients, survivors, family members, partners and friends. To register for a Family Support Group, please call (212) 448-9206, ext. 254 or send your information using the contact form provided below. For a list of New York City Support Groups, please click here.  Participants must register in advance in order to attend.

First Connection
This program links newly diagnosed patients in person or by phone with a trained peer who has experienced a similar situation. The volunteer offers support and information to patients just learning to cope with blood cancer and to their family members. The chapter makes every effort to match a patient with a volunteer of the same diagnosis, age group and gender. Call (212) 448-9206, ext. 254 or send your information using the contact form provided below if you would like to make a "first connection" or if you would like to become a trained volunteer.

The Trish Greene Back To School Program for Children with Cancer
The Trish Greene Back to School Program for Children with Cancer facilitates communication among parents, patients, teachers and healthcare professionals to help young patients make a smooth transition from hospital to school. Materials, videos and publications are available through local chapters. In New York City, materials are available through the New York City Bureau of School Health and the Office of the District Supervising Nurse. For more information, please contact your local school, contact (212) 448-9206, ext. 254, or send your information using the contact form provided below.

Advocacy

If you are interested in advocacy issues and would like to be a member of our Advocacy Network, please contact Sasha Harry at sasha.harry@lls.org or (212) 448-9206, ext. 242 and we will include you on our mailing list.
