John Walter, President & CEO John joined The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in 1995 as Senior Vice President of Finance & Information Technology. Most recently, he designed and implemented LLS's Co-Pay Assistance Program, leading a cross-functional team that established, made operational and raised in excess of $3 million in less than six months. He also led LLS's Canadian division in adapting LLS's strategic plan. Earlier accomplishments include projects that continue to enhance efficiencies and internal controls, such as the centralization of all finance and treasury operations in the United States and Canada. John also established LLS's information technology and Web services functions. He came to LLS from the March of Dimes, where he worked for nine years. John had previously worked at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette and at Bristol-Myers Squibb, where he had broad international experience. Back to Top Jimmy Nangle, Chief Financial Officer Jimmy is responsible for LLS's financial, administrative, risk management and travel functions. Prior to joining LLS in 1995, he gained for-profit and nonprofit experience at AMF, Chesebrough-Ponds and the Jockey Club. Jimmy has a B.S. degree in accounting from The University at Albany and an M.B.A. in finance from Pace University. He looks forward to the day that blood cancers are just a bad memory. Back to Top Jeff Como, Chief Information Officer As the Chief Information Officer for LLS, Jeff oversees the overall technology strategy, delivery, and services for the organization. His major responsibilities include: Technical infrastructure including network & datacenter operations Web & Applications development, Database management & Core Business systems Telecommunications & Facilities Management All systems support & training including helpdesk, application support, and call center services.
In addition to those areas, Jeff also has charge over evaluating & implementing emerging technology opportunities that can optimize operations, improve collaboration, and enhance user satisfaction for both staff and volunteers across the organization. Jeff joined LLS in 2005 as the Vice President of Systems Development where he built and executed a systems strategy to revamp LLS's online fundraising platform. Jeff comes to LLS with over 20 years of Information Technology leadership experience across diverse commercial enterprises, building large-scale enterprise solutions for both major corporations and dot.com startups. Back to Top Nancy Klein, Chief Marketing & Revenue Officer As the Chief Marketing & Revenue Officer, Nancy provides strategic direction and overall management of the organizations marketing and fundraising activities. Her responsibilities include: - Leading the identification, testing and roll-out of new campaign initiatives
- Overseeing the development of successful corporate partnerships
- Providing leadership in the areas of major gifts, foundation giving, planned giving and direct response
In addition, she is responsible for the development and execution of comprehensive marketing efforts, which include: - Web site design
- Content management and eMarketing programs
- Video products
- Broadcast, radio and print public service announcements
- All marketing collateral, direct mail, posters and annual reports
- Media relations and crisis management
- Market research from strategy through design, fielding and reporting
- LLS publications including e-newsletters
- Marketing communications interface with all sponsors or special relations programs.

DeGennaro, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer Dr. DeGennaro's responsibilities include administration of LLS's research grant programs that support research leading into the prevention, diagnosis and cure of leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. He also directs LLS's Therapy Acceleration Program, which supports private sector and academic-based projects with the goal of moving more blood cancer therapies into the development pipeline. Dr. DeGennaro has more than 20 years of research and drug development experience in academic and private sector settings. He received his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of California at San Francisco and did his post-doctoral research at Yale University School of Medicine. His previous academic positions include research group leader, Max Planck Institute in Munich, Germany, and associate professor of neurology and cell biology, University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. DeGennaro's private sector positions include: senior director of molecular genetics at Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Princeton, NJ, and executive vice president for research and development, SynX Pharma, Inc. in Toronto, Canada. Back to Top Barton Kamen, M.D., Ph.D., Chief Medical Officer In addition to co-directing LLS's major biomedical research grants with Chief Science Officer Louis DeGennaro, Ph.D., Dr. Kamen manages LLS's medical literature and professional medical education programs, and provides medical and scientific guidance to LLS's patient services and public policy activities. Dr. Kamen received his M.D. and Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, and served his residency and fellowship in pediatrics and pediatric hematology/oncology and pharmacology at Yale University, New Haven, CT. After spending three years in Wisconsin and then more than 15 years at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center as a Professor of Pediatrics and Pharmacology as the Carl B and Florence E. King Distinguished Professor Pediatrics, Dr. Kamen was appointed as a Professor of Pediatrics and Pharmacology, and Director of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and Associate Director of the Cancer Institute of New Jersey at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Brunswick, NJ. During his career, Dr. Kamen has been a recipient of a Scholar Award from The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and other research grants including the Damon Runyon Walter Winchell Fellowship, Burroughs Wellcome Clinical Pharmacology Award and an American Cancer Society Clinical Research Professorship. He has authored approximately 250 manuscripts (papers and chapters) and is the current Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Pediatric Hematology Oncology. Dr. Kamen's main laboratory interests are centered around folate and anti-folate metabolism, drug development, neurotoxicity from therapy and metronomic therapy for cancer. Back to Top Hildy Dillon, Senior Vice President, Patient Services As senior vice president of patient services, Hildy provides strategic direction and oversees the development, guidelines, evaluation and operations of LLS chapter based and national patient and healthcare professional services programs, disease specific patient publications & Web pages, financial and other support services. She joined LLS in 1999 as the Director of the LLS Information Resource Center. Hildy has dual Bachelor of Science degrees in biology and zoology from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse, N.Y. She received her master in public health degree at the City University of New York Hunter College School of Health Sciences. Prior to her tenure at LLS, Hildy served as Manager of Smoking or Health programs at the American Lung Association's headquarters in New York City. She spent nine years at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC); first in the clinical chemistry department working on breast cancer tumor marker research studies and later as supervisor of the National Cancer Institute's Cancer Information Service at MSKCC. Hildy frequently presents to professional oncology audiences on clinical and supportive care issues and serves on several professional hematology/oncology advisory group panels. Back to Top George Omiros, CFRE, CAE, Senior Vice President, Field Development As the head of Field Development since June 2008, George provides strategic direction and overall management of LLS chapters. He joined the LLS in 1988 and served as Executive Director of our Western Pennsylvania & West Virginia Chapter. In addition, he concurrently has served LLS as a National Marketing Representative, Group Director, National Director of Major Gifts, National Director of Community Campaigns to grow our residential campaign, and most recently as National Director of Federated Campaigns. He brings 30 years of management, strategic planning, volunteer & donor development and chapter expertise to the department. Recognized as a Certified Fund Raising Executive, Omiros is a charter member and Past President of the WPA Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals having served on the Board since 1980. George was named the 1990 Outstanding Fund Raising Executive by AFP. He also is a Certified Association Executive by the American Society of Association Executives and a founding member of the Pittsburgh Planned Giving Council. George is an active 30-year member of Rotary and served as District Governor for District 7330 in 2003-2004. For his development service to his church, George was bestowed the title of Archon Orphanotrophos as a Member of the Order of Saint Andrew the Great by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and Ecumenical Patriarchate of Istanbul, Turkey. He has over 30 years of experience with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and the American Heart Association. He is a consultant to many organizations and has taught college and community programs in the areas of organizational development, strategic planning, board/volunteer development, capital campaigns, major giving and special events. George is recognized in Who's Who in the East, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in The World.

George Dahlman, Senior Vice President, Public Policy George is in charge of LLS's growing advocacy efforts. Based in Washington, DC, George has contributed toward the enhancement of LLS's advocacy network, the expansion of the organization's federal activism and the launch of the Grassroots Network Development Program.
He joined LLS in 2000 after 20 years in communications and public affairs. Back to Top David Timko, Senior Vice President, Chapter Growth David Timko is the Senior Vice President of Chapter Growth with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, currently leading a "Quantum Growth" initiative with the Society's top 10 Chapters. He has been with the Society since 1987, joining the Society as the Executive Director of the National Capital Area Chapter in Washington, DC, where he served for over 17 years. The Chapter has consistently been one of the top performing entities in the Society's history. David has also been the key liaison for the UFCW/Leukemia Campaign since joining the Society, and has watched the campaign grow in participation and revenue for over 20 years. Back to Top
