Heidi
30, Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia

I'd like everyone who reads this to keep your chin up and know that great strides are made daily.
This one is for you, Dad!

My father was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) in the summer of 1989, when he was 55. When we were first told, the doctors said that he might not live a year. Well, thanks to the excellent care that he received at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, he lived three great years.

I am running in the Walt Disney World Marathon in January 2002 in memory of my father and the huge battle that he fought. Every step I take, I will be thinking about him and the thousands of others who will benefit from the money I raise for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
I'd like everyone who reads this to keep your chin up and know that great strides are made daily. And, like we did, I hope that you'll find it makes a tremendous difference to know that there are people who really care. For me, being a part of Team in Training is my way of giving back to the Society for all that they gave me and my family during a very stressful time.
