The Leukemia Cup Regatta on White Bear Lake

 September 18 - 20, 2009
White Bear Lake, MN

Set sail and cruise for a cure!  The Leukemia Cup Regatta is a racing and fundraising competition that combines the joy of sailing with the important task of raising money to fight blood cancers.  Since 1993, the Leukemia Cup Regatta Series has raised an amazing $27 million for blood cancer research, patient advocacy and education.

This year will mark the 6th Annual Leukemia Cup Regatta for the Minnesota Chapter.  In just five years, the Minnesota Chapter's Regatta has become a fall tradition that has helped raise over $338,000.  The event brings sailors from across the state together for a weekend of sailing, socializing and helping to find a cure.

Participants in the Regatta raise funds for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in honor of the local Honored Skipper and Crewmate.  The Honorees' provide inspiration and motivation, as well as represent the daily and lifelong challenges that a blood cancer diagnosis brings.

Come join in on the weekend festivities, as the Leukemia Cup Regatta series is about more than boats and crews racing.  It's about thousands of sailors who have elevated their competition to a whole new level - they race to save lives.

2008 Leukemia Cup Regatta Celebrates Record-Breaking Year
More than 200 sailors raised a record-breaking $100,000 at the Minnesota Chapter's fifth annual Leukemia Cup Regatta on White Bear Lake.  This was a huge jump over last year's total of $62,000.  Read the complete news release.  Since the first Regatta on White Bear Lake in 2004, more than $338,000 has been raised for lifesaving research and patient services.

Congratulations to the sailors who qualified for the Fantasy Sail with Gary Jobson in Ft. Myers, Florida: Brian Mathewson, Norm Schultz, and Steve Baardson.  To qualify for the Fantasy Sail, sailors must raise at least $8,500.

Congratulations to Echo Too, the winner of the 2008 Leukemia Cup!  The Leukemia Cup is awarded to the top fundraising boat (skipper and crew totals combined).  The crew of the Echo Too, made up of Brian Mathewson, Lisa Mathewson, Mark Berens and Dave Kenyon, raised an impressive $16,000.  Runners up for the Leukemia Cup were Green Bean with $11,822 raised, and Sovereign, with $9,803 raised.

Congratulations to Team Hizzoner, winner of the inaugural Leukemia Cup Challenge!  The three boats that comprised Team Hizzoner included Cyclone, skippered by Rudy Rudenberg, Echo Too, skippered by Brian Mathewson, and Type A, skippered by Jason Brown.  In the Challenge, three-boat teams use their sailing and fundraising abilities to compete for the prestigious Challenge trophy, which was awarded at the Regatta's closing ceremony.
