2009 Leukemia Cup Regatta a Sucess!
With your help we've raised over $62,000 to date (and counting) with this year's Leukemia Cup Regatta to help save lives. Here's a quick re-cap of the weekend's events...
Top Fundraising Boat "Screwball"
Raising over $5900!!!
Skipper: Kevin Carse
- Friday Night - Fundraising Check-in: We were cozy & out of the wind and rain at the Pilots Point Marina Clubhouse, 5pm-8pm. It was BYOB, and many did, and enjoyed the Clubhouse, while over forty participants checked in with me and Brandy and our volunteers, turning in final donations and receiving an 09 t-shirt if they raised $100 or more! (No shirt? There is still time to raise $100 and receive yours -- fundraising webpages will be accepting donations through September 21, 2009!) Anyone who earned the t-shirt, but was unable to pick theirs up on Regatta weekend will be mailed their t-shirt shortly :).
- Saturday - It was a rainy day to be out on the water, but everyone had a great time at the races thanks to our dedicated race Committee lead by Roger Bauman of DIYC (for the Spinnaker/Non-Spinnaker races), and Don Beaulieu (for the CR-914 races). Top racing boats in all classes were announced at the post-race party on Saturday night, and received awards. Racing results available at www.diyc.com.

Saturday Night - The post-race party was very well attended, with over 265 attendees and volunteers at Brewers Pilots Point Marina South Yard Shed. The evening started with brief speeches of thanks from our Honored Skippers' mom, Lee, and AML survivor Dan Riccio to everyone who helped raise funds.
Sarah Fowler
Top Individual Fundraiser!
Raising Over $4200!!
The beer, Barefoot Wine & Bubbly, and Mount Gay Rum flowed thanks to all our generous beverage donors (all beer donations coordinated by our friend at our favorite place to buy beer & fine wine in Westbrook - Cindy's!), burgers and dogs were served by our staff and volunteers, live music from The Sons, photo display from www.photoboat.com of the races (photos of your boat in the race available at their site!), Kattack helped make good racers better, and North Sails (a National Leukemia Cup Regatta Sponsor) was on hand to help thank sailors for participating.
Congratulations to our Top Three Individual Fundraisers: Sarah Fowler (raising over $4,200), Dan Ferrier (raising over $3,125) and Tom Lee (raising over $2,900), and our Top Fundraising Boat - Screwball (Captain Kevin Carse) for raising over $5,900 to provide programs for blood cancer patients, and funding for crucial cancer research.
Feel like you missed out on fundraising? There's still time -- fundraising webpages are active through September 21, and donation checks are always happily received here at LLS via mail (see address below). After September 21, we'll be mailing out fundraising prizes (check out www.leukemiacup.org/ct for the fundraising levels!).
On behalf of Henry (our Honored Skipper), Gary Jobson and all our blood cancer patients and their families, thank you so much for your generous support!
Together we will find a cure.
Best and we look forward to seeing you next year!
It is not too late to donate to The 2009 Leukemia Cup Regatta Online!
